Position Information:

Missouri Baptist University has an opening for a Research & Instruction Librarian. The Research & Instruction Librarian provides reference services and guides library users in identifying, retrieving, and evaluating information in all formats; participates collaboratively with colleagues and faculty to develop, promote, and provide library instruction and information literacy; and assists in collection development and circulation duties as needed.

Responsibilities

Summary: This position provides reference and research services to students, faculty, and staff and instruction of information literacy in class and one-on-one formats, as well as creation of guides, tutorials, and other instructional materials.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:  

  • Provide research support and instruction to students, faculty and staff.
  • As part of a cross-functional library team, develop and maintain research guides, online tutorials, interactive modules, and virtual workshops with library instructors.
  • Serve as liaison to academic and student success departments, cultivating a strong working relationship with MBU students, faculty, and staff. Serve on committees as appointed.
  • Collaborates with library colleagues to create, administer, and assess information literacy initiatives supporting MBU Curriculum.
  • Gather statistics, and other reports, to assist with strategic planning for the library.
  • Provide guidance on scholarly publishing, OA/OER, copyright, and intellectual property.
  • Participate in professional organizations and pursue professional development, staying informed of current and emerging trends in librarianship.
  • Work with colleagues to create and maintain departmental workflows and documentation to enable knowledge transfer.
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge of citation styles, information retrieval tools, teaching practices, and scholarly communication.
  • Assists with collection development and circulation procedures as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Certifications/Licensure

  • A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize projects, work independently, and collaborate with library staff.
  • Knowledge of research methods, information resources, and research practices.
  • Current awareness and comfort with technology pertaining to library services.

Preferred Education/experience

  • One to three years of experience working in an academic library.
  • Experience providing reference services in the digital and web environment.
  • Experience teaching library instruction or information literacy, including developing learning outcomes, activities, and assessment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team and independently
  • Knowledge of information literacy, research support, and teaching practices in academic libraries.
  • Knowledge of scholarly communication, OA/OER, and emerging technologies.
